Finally True Multitasking

Finally True Multitasking

Multitasking with AI Tools

I’ve never been good at multi-tasking. I see lots of people “try” to do it and a few do it well. In fact, I even posted about this a while back in my article The Myth of Multitasking. However, I realized lately I’m doing this much better then before thanks to AI. Today, AI tools are pushing that concept into entirely new territory. Instead of splitting focus, we’re able to kick off multiple streams of work in parallel, AI amplifying what one person can achieve.

A Real Example of Next-Level Multitasking

Recently, I found myself using all of these at the same time:

  • Gemini for deep research
  • ChatGPT to create an architecture diagram
  • Genspark to build a presentation deck
  • Gamma to generate an alternate version of that deck
  • Builder.io + UX Builder (with Figma plugins) to prototype a design and begin turning it into a web app

For these tasks that take a bit longer to execute in AI, I found I could load up different tools with tasks while I was waiting for completion. Each tool handled a different layer of the work (or even an unrelated piece of work) simultaneously.

Why This Matters

Traditional workflows are sequential: research, then design, then build. AI opens up new possibilities and ways of working. Now, if you have a solid plan, tasks can run concurrently. The result allows me to tackle multiple work streams and steps in a workflow at the same time.

This new mode of working changes how I think about:

  • Workflow design: How to align AI tools to complement each other instead of working in silos?
  • Focus: How to prevent spreading thin and instead channel effort into clear outcomes?
  • Human creativity: How to keep storytelling, vision, and leadership at the center while AI handles execution?
  • The Unicorn: How do more faster and with less?

The Future of Multitasking

We’re entering an era where true “multitasking” is available and no longer really just a myth. This skill is still something to be perfected over time. Those who were already great at multitasking may enter a Matrix like trance with all that AI can offer. However, for those of us who realize we can only actually do one thing well at a time, we realize, with AI’s help, we can assign multiple jobs out to our AI buddies. Maybe this is still not truly multitasking, but your coworkers and your boss will surely notice your next-level production output, at least for now. This type of working is likely to become increasingly common place over time.

Closing Question

What’s your version of next-level multitasking with AI?
